IMPORTANT NOTE!The categories below may be convenient, but they are mostly arbitrary, especially under Recordings. A stroll through Felts Park at Galax during the Old Fiddlers Convention will convince you quickly that there are no actual dividing lines between folk, old-time music, traditional bluegrass, and newgrass. There's a true spectrum, but the labels and walls are imaginary - invented by record sellers to help orgainize their bins. Heck, even some record stores have more sense - visit Schoolkids and WUXTRY when you're on Clayton Street in Athens. You'll find good selections of our kind of stuff - along with plenty of the sounds Athens is better known for. It seems that top level musicians tend to listen to everything and anything good. If they do it, we should too. Why not use your favorite category below as a springboard instead of a terminal destination? |
